SPEAKER
Stephen Paturel is a member of the Sacramento Aquarium Society. A high school senior, he’s already been keeping fish for six years, since he was just 12 years old. Starting with two fancy goldfish in a 5-gallon aquarium, he now has eight aquaria, mostly setup as community tanks. At the same time, Stephen enlisted community support to establish and maintain a 120-gallon aquarium at Gold Trail School in Placerville, as part of his efforts to earn the rank of Eagle scout. About three years ago, he got his first Polypterus and his interest took off from there. To date he’s kept most of the upper jaw species; he hopes one day to work with all the different Polypterus, both the upper jaw and lower jaw species. After high school, Stephen is considering a career in the US Coast Guard.
